U.S. Auto Regulator Hits Takata with $70 Million Fine in Air-Bag Settlement

The Japanese air-bag manufacturer, Takata, agreed to the penalty for failing to alert the regulators in a timely manner to a timely defect in some air-bag inflaters that can cause them to explode and spray shrapnel into vehicle cabins, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.
