OSHA to Increase Maximum Penalty for First Time Since 1990

OSHA maximum penalties, which have not increased since 1990, will be rise by 78%.  The increase will help deter employers from violating health and safety rules.  Maximum penalty for serious violations, which were $7,000, will now increase to $12,500.  Maximum penalty for repeat and willful violations will increase to $124,471 from $70,000.
